Submissions

Pitch us your story.

We’re looking for stories that can move America: scripted, unscripted, documentary and digital. Tell us about your project, attach your deck, and sign our submission agreement below.

Before you submit

We read every submission, but we can’t respond to all of them. If we’d like to go further, we’ll be in touch.

Please don’t send full scripts or footage. A logline, a synopsis and a deck are enough to start.

Submissions require the signed agreement below. If you’re represented, your agent, manager or attorney may submit for you.

Submission agreement

Read the agreement carefully. You must agree to it to submit.

Unsolicited Submission Release Agreement

1. Voluntary submission

I am submitting the material described in this form (the “Material”) to AMERICAN STORY and its affiliates, successors, licensees and assigns (together, “American Story”) voluntarily and on my own initiative. American Story did not request the Material.

2. No confidential or implied relationship

No confidential, fiduciary or other relationship is created by my submission, and no contract is implied from it. The only agreement between us about the Material is this one.

3. Similar material

I understand that American Story develops, produces and receives a large number of ideas, stories, formats and projects, and that its own work or work submitted by others may be similar or identical to the Material in theme, idea, format, character or plot. I agree that I will not be entitled to any compensation, credit or other right because of any such similarity, and that American Story may freely use material that is independently created, already in development, in the public domain, or not protected by copyright.

4. Use and compensation

American Story has no obligation to review, use, return, or respond to the Material. If American Story decides to use protectable elements of the Material that originated solely with me, any compensation will be negotiated in good faith in a separate written agreement signed by both parties. The amount of any such compensation is in American Story’s reasonable discretion and will not exceed customary amounts for comparable material.

5. My promises

I am at least 18 years old. The Material is original to me, or I control all rights needed to submit it, and submitting it does not violate anyone else’s rights. I have kept a copy of everything I submit.

6. Claims

I release American Story from any claim relating to the Material except a claim that American Story used protectable elements of the Material without the compensation described in section 4. Any such claim must be brought within six months of the first public release of the work at issue, is limited to money damages, and will not entitle me to stop or interfere with the development, production, distribution or promotion of any work.

7. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Washington, DC.

8. Electronic signature

By checking the boxes below and typing my full legal name, I am signing this agreement electronically. I agree that my electronic signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature. Agreement version AS-SUB-2026-10-13.

By submitting, you also agree to our Privacy Policy. We use your details only to review and respond to your pitch.
